52 Books in 52 Weeks, Part 27

My New Year's resolution was to read a book a week.

Book #27: Manifold Time (1999), by Stephen Baxter, finished 8/22. Begins by making a case for sending GMO squids to mine asteroids, devotes a large chunk of the middle to describing the future-history & death of the universe, and wraps it all up with a group of children who live with a giraffe in a bubble on the moon destroying the earth and all humankind in order to ensure the immortality of the universe itself. Oh, there's also a love interest, marines in space, nuclear war, black holes, and time travel. Some of the stuff at the end went over my head, but the thing I find most puzzling about this book is that the author appears to have written a sequel. Ah, science fiction. What can't you do?
